FAQ’S

Frequently Asked Quesions

We often get asked some very logical questions – here are a few of the most common ones;

Signwriting is appropriate on a wide range of surfaces. Surfaces like those on cars, windows, plywood, sheet metal, marine ply etc. Of course, the point of using signs on buildings or automobiles is to promote your company or whatever it offers.

Try to keep the pressure level low if you must use a pressure washer. However, if your signwriting is recent, it is advised against pressure washing. Alternately, you should wash the areas that have signs using warm water, soap, and a sponge. By doing so, you can wash the windows/car gently without damaging the design. A squeegee can remove any remaining water if there is any.

The signwriting is created from a robust and long-lasting substance. This robust material has a long lifespan in addition to being resistant to harsh weather conditions. Because of this, your signwriting should continue to be durable for many years and on vehicles at least three years, but possibly even seven depending on what the vehicle is subjected to such and dirt and weather. But in the end, it mainly depends on how well you take care of your signs.

Most of the time, no. A qualified signwriter will understand how to apply the signage correctly to protect the paintwork. In reality, just like vinyl covering, the signwriting can actually preserve the paint. The only drawback is that you will find the paint underneath is not as faded as the rest of your car’s paint when you finally remove the graphics off the exterior after a few years. This is an easy problem to fix. Everything will be OK once you’ve finished removing the graphics off the car and buffed up the paintwork.

The answer to this question depends on what surface the signwriting is on. Generally, if it is on a hard surface such as timber, plaster, bricks etc it is better to paint over and start again. On windows and vehicles the signwriting can be easily erased. Exposing the glue to heat or other heated temperatures is the most typical method. You can then start at one corner and slowly pull the adhesive off while it is still hot. As you peel the sign off, keep applying heat to the adhesive. This will guarantee a smooth peel. You may find that there is a residual outline which can then be removed by a cleaning agent such as WD40 or light doses of methylated spirits on a cloth. Of course, it is advisable to let a pro do this job if you lack experience.

The simple answer to this is No, it is not advisable to use any form of chemicals on vinyl because they will cause the material to fracture. Instead, use warm, soapy water and try to avoid using mechanibal buffers on or near the edges of vehicle graphics.

For vehicles and windows, there is nothing else you need to do other than wash the exterior with warm, soapy water taking special care around the signs edges.

The majority of reputable service providers will accept your own images and signwriting designs. From those they can make graphics and designs for you if you don’t have any.

Virtually every type of vehicle, including buses, cars, motorcycles, and vans, can be decorated with vinyl signwriting. Vinyl is safe to use because it won’t get damaged on the surface once ‘hardened’ after a week of application.

The use of signs has various advantages. The major advantage is how it will advertise and publicize your company. Additionally, you can select the style and logo you want to have on your car. This is a low-cost method of business promotion. Your paintwork won’t be harmed, so don’t worry about that either. When you’re ready, it is very easy to take the signwriting off. Talk to your local professional to get their ideas on what sort of sign you need, where to display and how big.

The short answer is no but you can certainly make a new sign for a new surface or size using the graphics from your previous signs. Ask your signwriter for the digital copy of the artwork or leave it with him so that he is ready to use it again for another application you may require.
